Anaesthetic

The first general anesthesia was given a hundred and fifty years ago. This is one of the youngest specialties of medicine now diversified into newer branches like intensive care, pain relief. Sree Narayana Medical Mission Hospital has full time proper anesthesia infrastructure & experts anesthetists, supported by modern monitors used for continuous monitoring of pulse, blood pressure, ECG, temperature, arrhythmia analysis, invasive pressure, end tidal CO2, anesthetic gas monitor, and depth of anesthesia (entropy). Hospital has 1 operation theater (OT) with laminar air conditioning and filters to maintain absolute sterility. Sterility in an operating theater is an absolute imperative for ensuring that patients are protected from any threatening infections. The system at our operation theatres filters air and creates an extremely homogeneous laminar flow with very little turbulence. Any bacteria, viruses or dust particles are extracted directly before the air enters the area. This means that the operating area is completely isolated within the surrounding room, effectively preventing any contamination by bacteria or virus-laden air. The low degree of turbulence also provides a pleasant working environment for medical personnel. The major responsibilities (functions) of this department are:

  • Assessment and preparation of patients for anesthesia and surgery.
  • Relief and prevention of pain during and following surgical, therapeutic, and diagnostic procedures.
  • Monitoring and maintenance of normal physiology during the preoperative period and critically ill patients.
  • Diagnosis and treating painful syndromes
  • Evaluating respiratory function and applying respiratory therapy
